Platform Lifts
Providing safe, comfortable access for wheelchair users and those with significant mobility challenges, a platform lift will work along a staircase or across a short change in level without the need for major building work.
Which type of platform lift do you need?
Wheelchair lifts come in two main types. The right option will depend on your situation:
- Inclined platform lifts travel along the staircase on a fixed rail. The platform folds away when not in use, leaving the stairs clear for other users. These are suitable for straight or curved staircases, both indoors and outdoors.
- Vertical platform lifts travel straight up and down, independently of any staircase. They're often used to bridge a short level change such as a step, raised area, or external threshold where an inclined lift isn't practical.
If you're unsure which suits your property, a free survey will help us advise.
Who are platform lifts suitable for?
A platform lift is often the right choice when:
- A wheelchair or mobility scooter needs to travel between levels
- A stairlift isn't suitable because transferring from a wheelchair to a seat isn't possible or safe
- Access is needed to a building, entrance, or raised area in a commercial or public setting
- Accessibility compliance is required under the Equality Act or Part M of the Building Regulations
Used in private homes, care settings, schools, churches, restaurants, and public buildings, a platform lift is viable solution wherever steps or stairs create a barrier to access.
